Social care is a common phenomenon in society. It refers to all forms of help, practical assistance, and personal care to those who need it in the community. When it is further narrowed down to children's social care service, it is that form of assistance described above when extended to children. Vulnerable children who have the greatest need in society require these social services for their gain and development. They require care and protection from harm to grow and develop like the other children in their community. Children's social care services are integral to fostering equity and equality in society; it happens in different shapes and forms.
Children receive different services from social care institutions and local authorities. Where there is a disabled child, services like home adaptations, disabled child facilities, travel assistance, recreational equipment, and education facilities such as home-based schooling. Beyond these services, others can be obtained from advocacy groups for child welfare. Counselling and rights advocacy for victims, caregiver support programs, shelters, and alternative living arrangements are social services that can be extended to children. In any situation where a child is thought to be exposed to harm, child social welfare services are bound to intervene.
In a world extremely harsh to the young population, social services have come on board to mitigate the negative impact that could strike children. Social welfare is not only for children who have been orphaned or abandoned. Instead, it also brings on board those with parents who cannot afford basic life needs. The social welfare services come on board to complement what the families can do and ensure that they get the services they need to elevate them to a better level.
When a child is enrolled in a social welfare program, the aim is to keep them safe and give them a chance to succeed in life. A child enrolled in a welfare service giving them educational opportunities gets the chance to get academically empowered like their mates in the education system. The children in these welfare services are exposed and vulnerable, majorly emanating from their physical abilities. They cannot compete effectively with their age mates when placed in the same environment. They require special attention and care to better their chances of success in life.
As at March 2018, England had over 2,200 children's homes, of all types, with a number of them run by local councils and others privatised. These homes are meant to offer foster care to children within their jurisdictions and beyond, which could be exposed to danger or harm, vulnerable, or need an alternative place to call home. A significant section of society cannot afford daily meals, clothing, and shelter for their children. The households find it difficult to even provide for their children's education. In that regard, social welfare services come in handy to ensure their children live up to their dreams.
A country is more complete when it has social welfare services for its children. The future of a nation is held by these young ones, whose dreams and abilities shape the future of a nation. Therefore, authorities are bound to support public and private social welfare institutions as long as they bear the same aims and aspirations for children. A better life for the children is the ultimate definer of success in social welfare functioning. Social welfare services do not take away the responsibility of parenting from the parents. Instead, the services should complement what the parents do on their end. The child is given a better arsenal to wage a fight towards success in a highly competitive world with the combined efforts.
